From Division III Golf to Custom Craftsmanship: Makes Manufacturing

Whether it’s equipment manufacturing, club design, coaching, fitting, or craftsmanship, Division III golf has produced countless individuals who continue to influence the sport in powerful ways. Sammy Majka is one of those people! Sammy is the founder of Makes Manufacturing, and he is a Division III golf alum from Gustavus Adolphus whose journey blends competitive golf, engineering precision, and hands-on craftsmanship.

Sammy’s journey into golf is somewhat unconventional. A former hockey captain at Gustavus, he never played high school golf and focused entirely on hockey until an unfortunate injury and a college golf class changed everything. As his coach, Scott Moe, recalls, one swing was enough to stop him in his tracks. Sammy was added to the roster on the spot, shot a 71 (-1) in his very first collegiate tournament, and quickly earned a spot in the team’s top five. No one worked harder or spent more time at the facility.

After college, Sammy began his career in sales before leaving corporate America to pursue machining. He spent years precision-milling aerospace parts, honing the skills and attention to detail that would later define his work in golf. Eventually, he invested in his own CNC milling machine and began designing putters—giving rise to Makes Manufacturing, a brand built to deliver tour-level precision and genuine customization for everyday golfers.

Makes Manufacturing offers a direct, hands-on approach to custom putter building, centered on collaboration and intentional design. Each putter is built one at a time, allowing for thoughtful adjustments to shape, neck style, weighting, and finish based on each player’s preferences. Looking forward, Makes is committed to expanding its lineup of putters along with exploring a broader range of golf accessories, including ball makers, divot tools, and other small-batch offerings.

If you’re looking for a custom putter and the rare experience of working directly with the person machining it—Makes Manufacturing is where craftsmanship and passion meet.
